According to the latest monthly data from the Macau Hotels Association, the average night room rate for a five-star hotel in Macau was MOP1,732.3 (US$215.05) in February, about 5.4% lower than MOP1,832.1 in the same month in 2019.
Most of Macau’s five-star hotels are located within the casino resort.
Average rates in that category, including the recent Lunar New Year holiday, also rose 28.5% year-over-year in February, the association’s data showed.
That level of occupancy averaged 90.9% in February, up 13.7 percentage points from a year earlier.
Based on the lunar calendar in 2023, the Chinese New Year holiday was in January.
The association’s report does not list the basic number of rooms used to calculate monthly room rates and occupancy data. Currently, the association has a total of 27 five-star hotels, 12 four-star hotels, and seven three-star hotels as members.
According to the report, the average room rate for 5-star, 4-star and 3-star combined was MOP1,544.9 in February, up 28.4% from a year earlier. The average room rate for February was 89.7%, compared with 77.7% a year ago.
According to a February report, the association had more five-star hotels on its membership list, with 21 in the same month of 2019.
