At the Asian Games in Hangzhou, Korea Baseball will play Hong Kong to kick up group play
South Korea baseball’s bid for a fourth consecutive Asian Games title kicks off with a match against Hong Kong.
The Korean Baseball Softball Team, led by head coach Ryu Jung-il, will compete in Group B alongside Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong and the qualifiers, according to the groupings received by the Korea Baseball Softball Federation (KBSF) from the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee on Wednesday.
Group A consists of Japan, China, the Philippines and the qualifiers.
Thailand, Laos, and Singapore will compete in the preliminary round, with two qualifying nations advancing.
Korea will open the tournament on October 1 at 7:30 p.m. against Hong Kong at the Shaoxing Baseball and Softball Sports Center near Hangzhou, China.
The following day, they will play their second game of the tournament at the same time and location against Chinese Taipei, one of the biggest obstacles in their quest for a fourth straight title.
The group finishes on October 3 with a match against a lower-ranked qualifier.
The first- and second-place finishers will advance to the Super Round, and if South Korea tops Group B, they will face Group A favorites Japan on October 5 at 7:30 p.m.
If they finish second in Group B, they will face the second-place team from Group A on October 5.
On October 6, they will play the second game of the Super Round against either Group A runner-up or Group A winner.
South Korea and Chinese Taipei will not face each other again in the Super Round as their group stage opponents will be honored.
The first and second place finishers in the combined group stage and super rounds will play for the gold medal in the final on October 7 at 7:00 pm. The bronze medal game will be played at 1 p.m. the same day.
The Korean baseball team will announce its injury replacements 먹튀검증토토사이트 in mid-September and will gather on Sept. 22 for a week of training before departing for Hangzhou.
