The Korea Football Association recently named Shin as the new head coach. Shin’s contract runs through the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. However, he will be evaluated midway through the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“I will do my best for the development of Korean women’s soccer and the national team,” Shin said at an official press conference at the Shinmunro Soccer Hall on the morning of the 17th.

A graduate of Kwangwoon University, Shin played for Daejeon Citizen (now Daejeon Hana Citizen) and Seongnam Ilhwa (now Seongnam FC). He began his coaching career as a coach for Gimhae City Hall in the National League. In 2015, Shin switched to women’s soccer, first coaching Boeun Sangsang (now Mungyeong Sangsang), then Icheon University in 2017, and then Changnyeong WFC from 2017-2021.

Shin returned to men’s soccer in 2022 to coach Gimcheon Sangmu, helping the team win the 2022 K League 2 title.

“It’s a difficult situation because we didn’t qualify for the World Cup and the Olympics. For me, I think it’s an opportunity to bring color to a blank slate. My abilities, 토토사이트 there are three directions that I emphasize the most. The first is the trust between me, the players and the staff. I think that’s how we can be a team. The second thing is to motivate the female players. That’s the biggest thing I’ve learned in my nine years in women’s soccer. It’s more important to motivate them than to whip them. The third thing is strategy, tactics, and most importantly, the right formation for the female players. I picked 23 of the players I saw to play in that formation,” Shin said.

Shin will make his debut as head coach on Sept. 26 in a friendly against Japan’s women’s national team at the National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. South Korea is heavily favored against Japan. They have just four wins, 11 draws and 18 losses in the all-time series. As of September, Japan was ranked seventh and South Korea 19th in the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) rankings.
