Most recently, a study published by OnlineCasinoList.com suggested that Ontario’s new, regulated iGaming market for private game operators may have some drawbacks. The study says existing online licenses will struggle while adapting to the new system and may not be as profitable as their upcoming ones. 슬롯머신
Ontario’s new iGaming regime is expected to launch sometime in the first quarter of 2022, making it one of the largest gaming jurisdictions in North America due to its population and competing markets. The market is also expected to account for 43% of total revenue for the entire online gaming industry in Canada.
In order for gaming brands to obtain licenses for the new market, they must pay CA$100,000 for the license and agree to a 20% tax rate, as well as apply to iGaming Ontario. The company can also choose to use an existing tribal Kahnawake license that costs C$118,725 and has a 0% tax rate. In this way, operators can gain greater freedom with their products and operate in the remaining 57% of the country’s iGaming market.
However, a recent study by the Online Casino List predicts that the emergence of Ontario’s new online system will make it inevitable to move away from Canada’s grey gaming market. The change comes as bad news for licenses provided by the Canawake Gaming Commission and those provided by regulators in Curaçao and Malta.
David Obermas of Online Casino List explained that if Ontario launches a new, regulated market, Kanawake license holders will be hit. Mr. Obermas added that he should worry about the new framework of Canawake State, as it is now as popular as Curacao and Malta. According to him, tribal countries do not have the population to provide their local licenses.
Additionally, the study indicates that none of the major casino brands would be willing to participate in the gray market, preferring the regulated market in Ontario instead. After Ontario, other states are expected to follow and introduce their own regulated open markets for private operators, which is even worse news for gray market operators and legacy licenses.
Ontario’s new gaming market was initially expected to arrive by the end of the year, but was delayed by some complications and bureaucratic hurdles. The new framework is now expected to be operational in mid-February, which could result in tons of betting missing out as the Super Bowl is scheduled for February 13, 2022.
Alberta, Canada’s fourth most populous state, has also recently made some progress to bring a regulated sports betting market. Last week, the Alberta gaming, liquor and cannabis companies began requesting applicants, and Crown is currently looking for two operators to work with its athletics casino and sports teams.
