Beijing Asia-Pacific Poker Tour in July

According to a schedule on the official APPT website, the Asia-Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) will head to Beijing in July for the Beijing Millions. The move is considered an important first step toward the tour in one of poker’s biggest potential markets.

The Beijing Millions will be held from July 18 to July 27 at the Beijing Star Poker Club.

According to APPT’s website, the Beijing Star Poker Club will manage the participants and payments. It also says that APPT will “logically support” the event.

The website states a 3,000 yuan ($480) buy-in for the tournament, but no official details have yet been announced.

There will be a few side events offered during the Beijing Millions. On July 27, there will be a CNY 20,000 No Limit Hold’em and the China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau Challenges as per the schedule.

Representatives for the Asia Pacific Poker Tour were not immediately available to comment on the structure of the tournament and how it would be paid.

Poker promoters are reportedly lobbying officials on the mainland to allow tournaments and TV games in Texas Holdham, a highly popular poker variant in the United States and Europe.

The tournament in Macau attracts athletes from all over the world, but many come from mainland China and Hong Kong.

Last month’s APPT8 Macau Main Event cost 25,000 Hong Kong dollars (3,224) to attract 494 players, 181 of whom came from mainland China. According to official figures from organizers PokerStars, Chinese and Hong Kong players made up about 48 percent of the main event sector.

China’s Liu Jiajun won the APPT8 Macau event, winning HK$2.776 million, marking his back-to-back victory in China after Aleksandr Chiang won last year.
