The Doosan Bears, backed by their owner, hit four home runs to defeat the Lotte Giants. Bear manager Lee Seung-yeop earned his 100th win as a manager.
Doosan won 8-3 against Lotte in the 2024 Shinhan Solar Bank KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on April 18.
Doosan Bears owner Park Chung-won, chairman of Doosan Group, attended the game in front of a sellout crowd (23,775).
In front of him, Doosan snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 26 wins, one tie, and 21 losses on the season.
In the span of a single day, things changed for both teams.
The day before the first game of the three-game midweek series between the two teams, Lotte Giants owner Shin Dong-bin visited Jamsil Stadium. Doosan struck first with a home run in the first inning.
Leadoff hitter Jung Soo-bin singled to right and Kang Seung-ho walked to load the bases. With runners on second and third on a fastball from Lotte catcher Yoo Kang-nam, Yang Seok-hwan took a three-pitch cutter from Lotte starter Na Gyun-an over the left-center wall for a three-run blast (his ninth of the season).
Doosan added a run in the second inning on three straight singles by Kim Ki-yeon, Kim Jae-ho and Jeon Min-jae to take a 3-0 lead.
Trailing 4-0, Lotte had a chance to fight back in the third inning when Hwang Sung-bin singled to right and Yoon Dong-hee walked. After a wild pitch by Doosan starter Kwak Bin put runners on second and third with no outs, Ko Seung-min singled to center field to score one run, and Na Sung-yup followed with an RBI double to make it 2-4.
In response to Lotte’s rally, Doosan answered with another home run.
Two batters later in the fourth inning, Jeong Soo-bin drew a full count against Na Gyun-an and launched a six-pitch fastball over the right field wall for a solo shot (his second of the season).
Two more home runs in the fifth inning made it 5-2.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Yang Seok-hwan took a Na Gyun-ahn fastball over the left field fence for a two-run homer (No. 10 of the season).
Lotte removed Na Gyun-ahn and brought in reliever Koo Seung-min, but they were unable to shut down the Doosan bats. Two batters later in the fifth inning, Kim Ki-yeon came to the plate and hit a solo shot to left field (No. 2 of the season) off of Koo Seung-min.
Down 2-8 in the sixth inning, Lotte scored a run on Yoo Kang-nam’s single up the middle with runners on first and third, but couldn’t get back in the game.
Kwak Bin earned his fourth win of the season, allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
