Kim Yeon-kyung to play her national retirement game on June 8-9

Kim Yeon-kyung (Heungkuk Life) will hold her international retirement match. Not only Korean women’s volleyball, but also famous international players will gather to honor Kim in her farewell match.

According to the Korea Volleyball Association, Kim’s national retirement match will be held on June 8 and 9 at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul. On June 8, Korean stars such as Kim Soo-ji (Heungkuk Life), Yang Hyo-jin (Hyundai E&C), Bae Yuna (Korea Expressway Corporation), Kim Hee-jin (IBK), Kim Hae-ran, Han Song-i (retired), and others will gather to play a retirement match followed by a retirement ceremony.

On June 9, the Kim Yeon-kyung Invitational World Women’s Volleyball All-Star Game will be held. Sheila Castro, Natalia Pereira, Fabiana Claudino (Brazil), Miyu Nagaoka, Kotoe Inoue (Japan), and 메이저 토토사이트 Plumjit Tinkaow (Thailand) have accepted Kim’s invitation.

Kim represented South Korea from 2005 to 2021, leading the women’s national team to glory, including a fourth-place finish at the London 2012 Olympics, a gold medal at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and a fourth-place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Kim announced her retirement from the national team after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, but the retirement ceremony and match were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tickets for Kim’s national retirement match on Day 1 will go on sale at 8 p.m. on Feb. 20, and for the Kim Invitational World Women’s Volleyball All-Star Game on Day 2 at 8 p.m. on Feb. 21.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s women’s volleyball team fell 0-3 to the Dominican Republic in the third match of the first week of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday (Sept. 19). It was an ignominious 30th consecutive loss dating back to 2021. As of today, South Korea, Bulgaria (four defeats) and Thailand (two defeats) are the only three of the 16 nations without a point in the tournament.

The team will play Thailand on Tuesday before traveling to Arlington, Texas, USA, for the second week of the tournament on Nov. 30.
