Malaysia Resort World Genting Opens Juke Nightclub

Malaysia’s only legitimate casino resort, Resort World Genting, last week opened the first of two club outlets under the Zuke brand.

According to a press release, the 5,000-square-foot venue, called “Empire by Zouk,” is dedicated to hip-hop music.

Resort World Genting is operated by Genting Malaysia Bhd. Both the latter and Genting Hong Kong Inc. are controlled by Genting Bhd, a Malaysian conglomerate. Genting Hong Kong, operator of casino cruise ships in the Asia-Pacific region and partner in major casino resorts in the Philippines, acquired the juke club venture in 2015.

Resort World Genting’s partnership with juke was first announced in December 2017. At the time, genting Hong Kong said it had signed a three-year contract with genting Malaysia regarding the management and branding of resort world genting’s new juke club.

“With the rise in popularity and awareness of hip-hop culture, we thought it would be the right moment to introduce a new hip-hop angle concept,” Andrew Lee, chief executive of Zook Group, said in a prepared commentary included in the press release, referring to Empire by Zook.

He said, “Resort World Genting was a natural fit because it is the parent company’s pioneering integrated resort… With the introduction of Zuke, it is our hope to expand the market segment, enhance and diversify the resort’s lifestyle experience.”

Empire by Zuke is part of the Zuke Atrium at Resort World Genting. The 40,000-square-foot atrium will also include the Zuke brand’s main club.

Zouk Club is a famous Singaporean nightclub. It is regularly selected as one of the best dance music clubs in Asia by trade publications. Originally based in Singapore, its festival organizing department, ZoukOut has existed in Japan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.

Resort World Genting Casino Resort is currently undergoing extensive renovation work. Called the Genting Integrated Tourism Initiative (GITP), the project was launched in December 2013. It is a multi-level plan that is described by a 10-year, $10 billion ($2.39 billion) master plan. Malaysian Real Estate has already opened several new facilities and attractions.

One of the GITP’s new major attractions is its yet-to-be-opened 20th Century Fox World theme park. Genting Malaysia on Monday filed a lawsuit worth more than $1 billion against Fox Entertainment Group LLC and Walt Disney Co., now the suitor of many of the Fox brand’s entertainment assets.
