New transit visas to halve abuse

Macau police have predicted that new rules on transit visas for mainland Chinese passport holders will cut abuse in half.

Wong Kim Hong-hong of the National Police Agency said that while he is believed to have used Macau on his way to a third destination, an average of about 100 mainlanders are being caught a day after staying in the city and returning to mainland China. 카지노사이트 모음

Mainland tourists are accused of using transit visas as a way of bypassing the normal visa application process to enter Macau, limiting the number of visits to the city per person on the mainland.

Macau has reduced the permitted length of stay for mainland Chinese passport holders passing through the city from seven days to five days. On Monday, police said the new rule will take effect from July 1.

Currently, Macao immigration regulations allow mainland passport holders to stay in Macao for up to seven days if they use Macao as a means of transfer to another destination.

Official statistics show that in 2013, 2.64 million mainlanders entered Macau on transit visas, but only 20.8% actually traveled abroad.
