The bill comes in relation to online gambling, which is widely popular in the state, as Empire State first introduced the mobile sports betting market a year ago. The bill was introduced by Democrats Louis R. Sepulveda and Leroy Corrie on Thursday, January 12, 2023. It was titled Senate Bill S1550 requiring all gambling and sports betting ads in the state to include warnings about possible negative impacts. It also requires all ads to include the New York Problem Gambling Hotline number 1-877-8-HOPENY.
