The Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto will soon open with a new 5,000-seat event center, but Mayor Niagara Falls is worried about the negative impact on both casinos at the Fallsview Casino Resort. Jim Diodati is concerned that a new multi-billion dollar fancy casino resort will affect the recent OLG Stage at Fallsview at Fallsview Casino Resort.
Also, the operator of the new casino, Great Canadian Entertainment, recently announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with Live Nation Canada. Through this partnership, the two parties will invite dozens of global artists to host venues across Canada, including Toronto, which opens this summer.
After the announcement of the agreement, Mr. Diordati said imitation was the biggest flattery. He explained that the operator noticed the influence of the Niagara Falls Theater. However, he acknowledged that the city knew that the expansion of Casino Woodbine would include an event venue, and that was why it was important to develop new markets and create new offerings.
He shared that local officials had already spoken with the state over the past few years to reinvest in Niagara Falls. The mayor noted that the new casino will have a major impact on two casinos and other gaming facilities in southern Ontario. Richard Taylor, president of Niagara Casino, expressed optimism for Niagara Entertainment’s future due to increased competition and recent success. Paul’s View Casino’s OLG Stage was recognized as the best venue in Canada. Mr. Taylor also highlighted the world-famous Mohegan’s experience and regular global entertainment presentations at the Avalon Theatre and OLG Stage at the Falls View Casino.
In addition, he noted that the newly announced partnership between Great Canadian Entertainment and Live Nation Canada will undoubtedly negatively impact Fallsview Casino’s OLG Stage. He said the new Toronto casino will be much more convenient for many people, but the Niagara Falls property will always be an iconic resort.
Mr. Diordati believes that when people come to his city, they come for all the experiences: sightseeing, wineries, restaurants, attractions, and games. Meanwhile, he said in Toronto, the location would be convenient because casinos would be closer to millions of people, and therefore advantageous over Niagara Falls casinos.
After a few delays, the OLG stage at Falls View Casino began in February this year. Held in a 5,000-seat concert hall, the show began with a show by legendary singer Billy Joel.
