Tottenham Hotspur have identified Eberechi Eze as a transfer target.
The Crystal Palace side are looking to add strength to their flanks with the signing of Eze, who has been touted as one of England’s top talents.
However, Tottenham will have to break the club record transfer fee to land Eze to do so. Tottenham’s most expensive transfer to date was the €70 million (about $104.4 billion with options) they paid to Olympique Lyonnais for Tanguy Ndombele.
Alasdair Gold, a journalist for the British publication Football London and a dedicated Tottenham journalist, hosted a Q&A with fans on Monday.
One Spurs fan asked Gold: “How realistic is it to sign a player with a buyout clause like Eze, why not just pay for him?” Gold replied: “Spurs love Eze and have for years.
Gold responded, “Tottenham really like Eze, they have for years. If they want to bring Eze to the team in the summer, now is the time. Much has been made of the reported buyout clause, which is reportedly £60 million plus an £8 million add-on. Others say it’s a little more complicated than that.”
Gold continued: “Eze is represented by CAA Base, an agency that has relationships with many people at Tottenham, including manager Anzhi Postecoglou, Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Pedro Foro and Pape Sarr. According to Gold, Tottenham have yet to make an official move for Eze, and because Palace are not the big spenders in the transfer market like Manchester City and Chelsea, they are not in a rush to break Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.
“The £68 million buyout fee would break Tottenham’s transfer market record,” says Gold, “but Eze could be a game-changer in Postecoglou’s tactics, and he can play in the center or on the flanks,” he adds.
Gold even worries that Eze’s participation in the UEFA European Football Championship (Euro 2024) could see his price tag soar even further if he performs well at the tournament.
Eze, who holds dual English and Nigerian citizenship, is the second-highest paid player at Palace after Wilfried Zaha. He began playing for Palace in 2020 after a career at Queens Park Rangers (QPR) and scored 11 goals and provided four assists in the Premier League (PL) in the 2023-24 season, helping the 스포츠토토 club to a 10th-place finish.
Initially, Eze was considered an excellent dribbler as a prospect, but after discovering his talent for producing offensive points, he developed into a playmaker who was responsible for the team’s overall offense. Eze could ease Tottenham’s flanking woes. If Eze can break down the flanks and produce offensive points, Postecoglou can put Son up front and let him focus on scoring goals.

And, as Gold fears, if Eze performs well at Euro2024, the race for his signature will only get tougher. While the buyout clause for Eze is not small, few big clubs are willing to open their wallets in the summer transfer window for a promising and proven resource.
