Bayern Munich goalkeeper Neuer has reportedly tied the knot with his girlfriend.
German media outlet Bild reported on Thursday (April 14), “Neuer has tied the knot in a secret ceremony. Neuer married his girlfriend Anika Bissell. Regensburg handball player Anika Bissel suddenly changed her name to Anika Neuer, and news of her marriage to Neuer broke.
At 37, Neuer is 14 years older than Anika. Neuer separated from his ex-wife in 2019 and divorced her just before Christmas 2020. His marriage to his ex-wife ended after three years. He started a family with his new girlfriend three years after the divorce. Neuer and his girlfriend have been together in public, including attending Oktoberfest in Munich this year, and eventually tying the knot.
Neuer broke his leg skiing after last year’s World Cup in Qatar and made his 11-month comeback against Bochum last month. Neuer is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, having played a key role in Bayern Munich’s 11th consecutive Bundesliga title and leading Germany to victory at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Neuer has also won 117 caps for the German national team, including two UEFA Champions League titles. Neuer, who made his Bundesliga debut for Schalke in the 2006-07 season, is in his 18th season in the Bundesliga.
After his injury comeback against Bochum last month, Neuer said, “I am happier than ever after the game. It’s great to be back at the Allianz Arena and play in front of the fans.
