Lotte Tourism Development said it arranged a deal for more than 1,000 VIP gamblers from abroad to visit its casinos at the Jeju Dream Tower resort (pictured) for the summer holiday season in August.
Most of the expected high rollers come from Singapore, the company representative identified to GGRAsia,
The company said it plans to work with nine junket agents, including two familiar with the Singapore customer segment and five leaders in charge of the Malaysian customer market, to bring players to Jeju Dream Tower this month.
While junket activity at licensed casinos in Macau and Australia has been on the decline, Lotte Tour’s COO Lawrence Teo said Tuesday’s announcement said, “Southeast Asian junkets have recently been competitively heading to South Korea.”
He added that casino business activities in Jeju have been “focused” by the visa-free entry system since June 1 for tourists with certain passports, as well as local consumers’ interest in Korean pop culture.
Lotte Tourism Development said in May that it had hired 20 casino industry employees specializing in overseas sales, including a former senior executive from Star Sydney. Lotte Tourism Development announced that it had planned to hire 30 additional sales executives when international air services to Jeju Island were fully restored.
Jeju’s Dream Tower Casino recorded a gross game revenue (GGR) of about 15.3 billion won (US$11.7 million) in the second quarter, and recorded 7 billion won in June alone, its highest monthly performance since its opening in June 2021.
Jeju Island resumed the visa-free entry system for certain foreign passport holders from June 1. Jeju Island will also be able to resume international flights from May 1, with the first service on June 2.
According to data from the Jeju Tourism Organization, the number of foreign tourists who recently visited Jeju stood at 5,622 in June, 6,294 in July, and 2,650 from Aug. 1 to Aug. 10.
