South Korea’s Kim Si-woo and Kim Joo-hyung continued their strong play on the third day of the men’s Presidents Cup, but the gap between them and Team USA widened.
Kim Si-woo and Kim Joo-hyung combined for one win in the four-ball competition at the 2024 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada, on Monday (Sept. 29), but lost the foursomes match to give the international team one point.
The International Team, comprised of players from South Korea, Japan, Australia, and Canada, went 1-3 in fourball matches and 1-3 in foursomes.
The International Team, which was evenly matched at 5-5 after the previous day, fell to the Americans by a combined score of 7-11.
The International Team will have a tough task to overcome the deficit in 12 singles match-play matches on the final day of the tournament.
Playing together for the first time in the tournament, Kim Si-woo and Kim Joo-hyung got things started with a four-hole victory over USA’s Keegan Bradley-Windom Clarke in the four-ball match, leading by three with three holes remaining.
It was the only victory for the international team in four four-ball matches on Monday.
Kim Si-woo and Kim Joo-hyung continued to perform well in the foursomes matches that followed.
Trailing by one through 15 holes, the pair had a chance to turn things around on the 16th (par-4).
Kim Joo-hyung’s second shot caught the lip of a bunker short of the green, but Kim Si-woo hit a stunning lob shot for birdie, earning a rousing ovation from the gallery cheering on the international team.
After tying the score again, Kim celebrated by circling the green in a baby-sleep gesture. It was a goal celebration after NBA superstar Steph Curry scored a goal.
However, the Americans took the lead on the 18th hole (par-4) when Patrick Cantlay sank a birdie putt from five meters.
On the international side, Adam Scott (AUS)-Taylor Pendrys (CAN) won the only foursomes match by two strokes over Brian Harman-Max Homa.
Lim was unable to add to his points total as he lost to Cantlay-Sam Burns in the fourballs, paired with Hideki Matsuyama (JPN), and to Scotty Schaeffler-Russell Henry in the foursomes. 바카라사이트
