SHUTTLECOCK’S KIM DOMINATES KOREA MASTERS WITH MIXED AND WOMEN’S DOUBLES GOAL

Kim Ga-eun (Samsung Life Insurance) topped the World Badminton Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 300 Korea Masters. Kim, ranked 19th in the world, defeated world No. 75 Tomoka Miyazaki (JPN) 2-1 (19-21 21-17 21-12) in the women’s singles final of the tournament at the Universiade Gymnasium of Gwangju Women’s University in Gwangju on Wednesday .With women’s singles standout Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance) sidelined with a knee injury, Kim defended the pride of the host nation .It was Kim’s first international individual title in four years and eight months since the China Masters in March 2019. At last month’s Asian Games in Hangzhou, she won the women’s team gold medal, but that tournament lacked many of the world’s top ranked players as Kim was seeded No. 1.In the mixed doubles final, world No. 4 Seo Seung-jae (Samsung Life) and Chae Yoo-jung (Incheon International Airport) defeated China’s Zhang Zhenbang and Wei Yixin (world No. 6) 2-0 (21-14 21-15) to win gold.
