‘Triangular Squadron’ Woori Card returns to the lead with 3-1 win over KEPCO

Woori Card takes the first match of the second round and avoids a losing streak.

Woori Card defeated Korea Electric Power 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20) in a home match in the Men’s Professional Volleyball Dodram 2023-2024 V-League at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on September 9.

Woori Card, who had won five straight matches after opening the tournament before losing to OK Financial Group in the final match of the first round, bounced back immediately. With the three points, Woori Card (17-6-1) overtook Samsung Fire 현금홀덤사이트 (14-5-1) atop the league standings. Meanwhile, KEPCO (3-1 W-6 L), who have lost four straight, had to settle for a set win for the first time in four games.

Mattei led the way with 21 points, including three blocks and two service aces, while Kim Ji-han and Han Sung-jeong chipped in with 13 points apiece to balance out the wings. Park Jun-hyuk, who filled in for Park Jin-woo who was absent due to knee pain, also contributed with five points, including three blocks.

Woori Card took control of the first set with a high level of concentration. At 12-12, a ball hit by KEPCO’s outside hitter Tyson Host headed out of the court through Mattei, but Han Sung-jung threw herself to save it. Then, libero Oh Jae-sung’s under-tossed ball landed in KEPCO’s empty court.

At 15-16, Kim Ji-han and Han Sung-jung each scored a blocker touchout to regain the lead. Park Jun-hyuk and Mattei then blocked the TICE attack in front of the net to seal the win.

KEPCO fought hard in the second set, but committed nine errors. Woori had three errors. KEPCO kept up with Woori throughout the set, but could not extend their lead. At 18-22, Seo Jae-duk’s opener and two consecutive back-attacks by Taith brought them to within one point, but an attack error by Taith and a quick open by Kim Ji-han made it 21-24.

Woori Card’s Mattei overnet and Park Chul-woo’s service ace made it 23-24.

KEPCO fought back in the third set, led by Seo Jae-duk with six kills (50.00%). However, it was Woori Card who had the last laugh.

After two consecutive kills by Matej in the fourth set at 7-5, Woori Card reached the 10-point mark on a direct kill by Han Sung-jeong and maintained the advantage until the end.

In the women’s match at Suwon Gymnasium, Hyundai E&C defeated Chung Kwan-Jang in straight sets 3-1 (28-26, 24-26, 25-21, 25-16). With the three points, Hyundai E&C (13-4 W-3 L) moved into third place, pushing Jung Kwanjang (11-4 W-3 L) to fourth.

Leticia Moma Vasoko led Hyundai E&C with 29 points and Yang Hyo-jin and Jeong Ji-yoon added 14 points apiece, while Jeong Kwan-jang was led by Giovanna Milana (24 points) and Megawatti Puttiwi (20 points).

Jung Kwanjang’s Lee So-young, who underwent shoulder surgery in April, took the court for the first time this season but did not score.
