‘King’ James loses 44-point game for first time in 20 years in NBA

Led by a triple-double from Joel Embiid, the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Los Angeles Lakers by a whopping 44 points.

Philadelphia cruised to a 138-94 home victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023-2024 NBA regular season at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S., on Monday (Jan. 28).

Philadelphia’s Embiid led his team to victory with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for his sixth career triple-double and first of the season.

The game marked the largest margin of defeat for LeBron James as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The largest margin of defeat for James, who made his NBA debut in 2003, was a 42-point loss to the Indiana Pacers in 2019.

The Pacers defeated James’ former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, 136-94.

In the Lakers’ 44-point loss to Philadelphia, James scored 18 points and dished out five assists. He did not grab a single rebound.

Philadelphia made 22 3-pointers and outrebounded the Lakers 48-32, even without Embiid in the fourth quarter.

Philadelphia, which improved to 12-5, moved into a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference, while the Lakers, at 10-8, remained in eighth place in the Western Conference.

The Detroit Pistons fell to the Washington Wizards 107-126, snapping a 14-game losing streak.

The two teams were tied for 14th place in the Eastern Conference with a 2-14 record before tonight’s game, but the result moved Washington to 14th (3-14) and Detroit to 15th (2-15).
